To execute the project, an old house has been rented from the Al Rami family in the village of Terbol, Zahlé District. This old construction is located in a 2000 square meter field.

The construction is made out of crude bricks and stones, coated with mud and white-washed, with a roof of earth supported by reeds and branches. All the columns are made of tree trunks.

It is an L shaped space divided in the traditional liwan, youk, tabout. Its size and surroundings of trees and small shrubs are ideal for a museum reflecting rural life.

This rehabilitated construction will house collections of ethnographic objects, representing rural life with all kinds of artifacts bearing “the mark of man’s work and ancient models of agricultural production and handicrafts”.

The rehabilitation of the house will be done by Jacques Liger-Belair, and the museography by Mado Corm-Melliero.

Necessary work:
• Repairing and white-washing the walls in the traditional way (hawwara).
• Treatment of the roof and repairing the frame of reeds and branches, pouring a new flagstone on an invisible membrane    and treating the water-tightness of the house.
• Repairing wooden objects in the traditional way.
• Electrical installations in concordance with the museographic fitting.
• Sanitary installations (discreet behind the house).
• Create a cafeteria and point of sale of rural life products.
• Create a video projection room and Internet site.
• Designing gardens.

This project has a real pedagogic impact: comparing urban life with the rural world away from its folkloristic aspect.
The Museum of Rural Life aims to stimulate the cultural and economic dynamic of the whole region and it is scheduled to open in the near future.

The different activities will boost the region due to new fixed and seasonal job opportunities, and the heritage conservation becomes a necessary action for rural development.

The integration of this project in an eco-tourism circuit, which includes visits of nearby archeological sites and neighboring domains of vineyards, will contribute to the regional re-evaluation.
